Key Stage 3 career interests
Launchpad, our popular program for use with Key Stage 3 students, has a wide range of uses including helping students to explore their skills in relation to subjects and future careers.
Used in schools throughout the country, Launchpad is the perfect introduction to careers for students aged 11-13.
And with the Education Act 2011 introducing a legal duty on schools to provide access to impartial careers guidance from Year 9, Launchpad provides an excellent impartial resource to help schools fulfil the duty.
We’ve recently taken a look at which careers students who use Launchpad are interested in.
Looking at the data for usage by young people during the 2010/11 academic year, the top ten most popular careers were:
- Actor/Actress
- Computer Games Designer
- Police Officer
- Doctor
- Fashion Designer
- Photographer
- Teacher
- Hairdresser
- Barrister
- Veterinary Surgeon
In comparison to the previous year, the top three most popular careers have all increased in popularity, while careers such as Fashion Designer, Doctor and Veterinary Surgeon have decreased in popularity.
Hairdresser enter the top 10 for the first time, moving up from number 14, while Solicitor, which appeared at number 6 in 2009/10, is now the 16th most popular career.
Launchpad includes information on over 500 careers, with videos, case studies and photographs to help engage students in exploring different careers.
