Streets Ahead is a skills-based program to help Year 9 students with their Key Stage 4 subject options, and introduce careers to students in Years 7 and 8. Each student gets a personalised skills profile by answering a scenario-based quiz. When they have completed the quiz, their answers are used to generate a Personal Profile. This assesses each student's level of ability in a range of key skills and relates these to subjects. Specific information is provided on GCSEs and 14-19 Diplomas. Students can look at how subjects link to careers, encouraging their self-awareness and decision-making skills. Colourful and animated characters, Sam and Amba, provide advice and guidance throughout the program.
Students can find out more about subjects of interest with areas which include; 'What will I study?', 'How will I learn?', 'What skills can I develop?', 'How will my work be assessed?' and 'Where could I work?'. Information is provided on over 450 careers, each with a real-life interview, on-the-job photographs and examples of work styles. The Manager function makes it easy to control the use of Streets Ahead, including the facility to change the skills profile for each subject and to remove subjects that are not offered.
